Elisons Workshop

Tamas Kovacs

Tamás, owner and lead designer of Elisons Workshop, has been involved in the Architecture and Design profession from a very early age. Growing up with most of his family involved in the arts from glass work to painting, and with a father who was a successful Architect/Designer in Budapest, Hungary, Tamás has learned many facets of the Design profession from early on.

Tamás started working full time for his father at the age of 18, first helping out then slowly taking on and running several of his father’s projects including interior, custom millwork and complete architectural projects. Tamás has also spent a few years working in his father’s cabinet shop designing, building and installing cabinets, and millwork.

In 1996, Tamás moved to Denver, Colorado and received a 3 year scholarship to the Art Institute of Colorado. He received his BA in Interior Design in March 2000, and shortly after he got an offer to work for Gensler as a designer focusing on conceptual design on some of the firm’s most prominent projects including several office buildings in the Denver area, and major development projects in China.

In 2002, Tamás and his twin brother Bence, who received his Masters in Architecture from University of Colorado in Denver, founded DG Studio, Inc., a design/build firm focusing on high-end interiors, millwork and custom furniture. On March 2, 2006 Tamás and Bence’s father and mentor Elemér (Eli) passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident. As a tribute to their father, Tamás & Bence  changed the company’s name to EliSons Workshop, and are committed to carrying on their father’s legacy.

No one is ever sure if Tamás has enough time to breathe. You might hear him say “Maybe when I’m 80 I’ll pick up golf, but for now I am going to work hard and play hard.”

Tamás’ idea of playing hard includes rock climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking, skydiving, and much more. He always shares his passion for his favorite extreme sports with many others. He is often taking groups of friends climbing, providing assistance with gear and safety. Tamás is often called the “Rope Gun” for setting up climbing routes for others to enjoy. His commitment in his profession is just as strong as it is in his favorite activities.
