Non-Toxic Office Cleaners

Non-Toxic Office Cleaners

At one point in everybody’s life they find themselves staring at a bottle of windex and wondering what’s in there. What makes it streak free? What makes it blue? How is it made? Then.. the worst part.. Is when you decide to find out.

Non Toxic Cleaning

After a quick google search you’ll see frequent complaints about the chemicals found in off the shelf cleaners. People experience skin and eye irritation, hives, eczema, asthma, and more serious respiratory issues. The Environmental Protection Agency ranks indoor air pollution among the top environmental dangers, and a lot of the pollution comes from common cleaning products. Worried yet? Here’s something else you’ll want to know: cleaning products aren't regulated by the government, and the EPA only tests products that have known pesticides in them.

Now that you’re in the mindset to think critically about your cleaners, it seems like a no-brainer to help your coworkers and family avoid the harsh affects chemical cleaners can have on health and comfort. You don’t want harsh chemicals in the air in your home or office, and now it’s time to decide how to replace them!

There are a plethora of extensive blog posts about home cleaners, so we’re going to focus on a few of our favorite office cleaners. They’re simple, inexpensive, and a must-have in your new chemical-free office space!

For a strong, effective toilet scrub:

  • Pour ½ cup of baking soda and 10 drops of tea tree essential oil in the toilet

  • Add ¼ cup of vinegar

  • Let fizzle for a moment

  • Scrub!

There’s a few options, but this is our favorite all-purpose counter cleaner!

  • Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle

  • Add 5 drops of your favorite citrus essential oil

  • Spray!

**NOTE: the acidity of vinegar is not good for marble, granite, or stone. For these surfaces, replace the vinegar with either rubbing alcohol or vodka!

  • Combine 1 part vinegar with 4 parts water

  • Add some lemon juice

  • Wipe away with cotton cloth or black&white newspaper!

This makes microwave cleaning SO EASY!! You’ll never scrub a microwave again!

  • Pour some vinegar into a small cup and mix in a little lemon juice

  • Put the cup inside the microwave and turn it on for 2 minutes

  • When it’s done running, leave the door closed for another 3 minutes

  • Open the door and wipe down the sides with a warm sponge!

  • Combine one part white vinegar with two parts warm water

  • Mop

  • Done! No need to rinse!

**NOTE: do not use this for wood floors
